The beantrust origins.

Our founders story,
Erik Modahl.

Starting beantrust in November 2015 at the age of 56 was like Mount Vesuvius erupting with a desire to impact our culture with cultivating community.

I grew up in Washington state, the son of hard-working, small business owners. I graduated with a degree in music and traveled around the United States and Canada for almost a year and ended up here in Massachusetts. I spent time in the hotel Industry for a couple of years and then 30 years in the Office Coffee distribution realm.

I discovered specialty coffee at a small coffee shop in Lexington Massachusetts called Coffee Connection. I realized the corporate office lacking in quality coffee and sought to change that by introducing fresh roasted coffee into the workplace.

Beantrust began as a service into the workplace of delivering specialty bean and coldbrew.  In 2020 we opened the Beantrust coffee bar at 151 and 1/2  Hale Street in the Cove Village of Beverly, Massachusetts.

Our History

1986
The seed of inspiration

Discovered specialty coffee at Goerge Howell’s Coffee Connection in Lexington! Felt a desperate need for quality coffee in the workplace, in our homes and communities.

1996

Immersing in the craft

Introduced fresh micro, roasted coffee program called revolutionary coffee into the workplace. This attention to quality led to being the first to distribute Peet’s Coffee outside of San Francisco area. Spending time at the first Peets store and where the coffee was roasted was a profound experience.

2015
Pioneering cold brew

Introduced cold brew to the office coffee market. Traveled to Guatemala to better understand coffee’s seed to cup story. beantrust is began with the mission of cultivating community.

2020
beantrust coffeebar opens

Erik opens beantrust coffeebar in Beverly, MA., with a mission to cultivate a vibrant community through coffee.
The coffeebar quickly becomes a beloved local spot, known for its warm atmosphere, exceptional coffee, and commitment to fostering genuine connections.

2024
Improving and growing beantrust

With the support of our community and team Erik continues to lead beantrust with a focus on innovation, and deepening community impact. Beantrust is recognized as a leader in fostering community through coffee.

2025
Expanding distribution

Erik continues to explore new workplace collaborations to share its mission, with plans to expand through distribution and subscriptions while staying true to its core values of community, connection, and hospitality.
